New DTV Requirements from 31 August 2026
The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has changed the document list for the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV).
Information verified against official sources on 14 September 2026.
The new rules apply to applications filed from 00:00 on 31 August 2026 (Thailand time). Two principal changes were introduced.
1. Proof of Permanent Residence instead of current-location evidence
Previously the DTV baseline included a requirement for a "Document indicating current location". From 31 August 2026 this is replaced by "Proof of Permanent Residence". It is no longer enough to rely only on the applicant's physical presence in a given country: a document confirming permanent residence must be provided in accordance with the requirements of the consular mission handling the application. The form of such confirmation and the acceptable documents may differ depending on the country of filing and the specific Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate-General.
2. Criminal record clearance became mandatory
A "Certificate of Criminal Record Clearance" has been added to the DTV document list. This is a new mandatory requirement for applications filed under the updated rules. A specific consulate may set additional requirements for the document, including country of issue, validity period, translation, certification or legalisation, and requirements for minor applicants. Having the certificate itself therefore does not mean it automatically meets the requirements of the specific place of filing.
What this means for applicants
The changes raise the document bar for DTV applications. Applicants who previously relied on evidence of current location should prepare proof of permanent residence, and all applicants under the new rules should obtain a criminal record clearance in advance. Because mission-specific rules vary, the responsible Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate-General should be checked before filing.
