What an Education Visa (Non-ED) is
Non-Immigrant ED is a non-immigrant visa for foreigners who enter Thailand to study or to join an education programme recognised by the state. It is not a tourist visa: the purpose is study, training, academic exchange or another education ground allowed by the rules.
Education is broader than a university degree. ED may cover state, private or international schools, vocational study, college, bachelor/master/doctoral programmes, language study and other recognised courses, depending on the institution and the mission or Immigration office.
After entry, stay is set by the immigration stamp. Long-term study usually needs extensions tied to the school’s confirmation. ED is not a work visa. Changing from ED to another category has its own rules and is not automatic.
