What the DTV visa is
Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is a five-year multiple-entry non-immigrant visa introduced in 2024. It is for foreigners who live in Thailand long-term without taking a Thai job: remote work for a foreign employer or income, and qualifying Thai Soft Power activities such as Muay Thai, Thai cooking, medical treatment, study and cultural programmes.
Each entry normally allows a stay of up to 180 days. Immigration may grant one extension of up to 180 days. After 180 + 180 days the holder must leave Thailand and may re-enter while the visa remains valid. A five-year visa is not five years of continuous stay.
DTV is not a tourist visa, not Non-O, not Non-B, not LTR, not SMART Visa and not permanent residence. It does not replace a Work Permit for work for a Thai employer. Financial evidence of at least THB 500,000 is part of the official baseline; the responsible mission may add further rules.

- Valid passport/travel document and biodata-page copy.
- Recent applicant photograph.
- Proof of permanent residence (Proof of Permanent Residence) meeting the requirements of the responsible consular mission. From 31 August 2026 this replaces the former "Document indicating current location" requirement.
- Certificate of criminal record clearance (Certificate of Criminal Record Clearance) — mandatory for applications filed from 31 August 2026. The responsible consulate may set requirements on country of issue, validity period, translation, certification/legalisation and minor applicants.
- Financial evidence of at least THB 500,000 or equivalent in a form accepted by the responsible mission.
- For Workcation: evidence of remote employment, employment certificate/contract or professional portfolio, depending on the case.
- For Thai Soft Power / qualifying activity: evidence of participation; medical cases require medical-provider documentation.
- For spouse/child applications: evidence of relationship to the principal DTV holder.
- Any additional evidence requested by the responsible Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate-General.

What the DTV Visa Is Used For
The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is intended for eligible “workcation” applicants and people taking part in qualifying activities in Thailand. Common use cases include remote work for an overseas business, freelance work for clients outside Thailand, and approved cultural or skills-based activities such as Muay Thai training, Thai cooking courses or medical treatment.
Who may consider it
The DTV may be relevant to digital nomads, freelancers, remote employees and accompanying family members who can document the purpose of travel and meet the applicable requirements. It is not a general permission to take local employment in Thailand.
