What the DTV is
The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is a five-year multiple-entry Thai visa. Official MFA material describes a permitted stay of up to 180 days per entry and the possibility of one extension of up to another 180 days per entry through Immigration.
Who can qualify
Official DTV categories include Workcation applicants such as digital nomads, remote workers, freelancers and foreign talent; applicants participating in qualifying Thai soft-power or other specified activities; and eligible spouses and dependent children of DTV holders.
Financial evidence
Official MFA guidance states financial evidence of at least THB 500,000. The form of evidence and the period that must be demonstrated can be specified by the responsible embassy or consulate, so the mission-specific checklist must be checked before filing.
Core documents
The application normally requires a passport or travel document, a recent photograph, evidence of the applicant's current location, financial evidence and evidence supporting the selected DTV purpose.
Workcation evidence
Workcation applicants may need employment evidence, an employment certificate, a contract or a professional portfolio demonstrating remote-work or freelance activity outside Thailand.
Activity evidence
Applicants using an activity basis need evidence confirming participation in the qualifying activity. Medical-treatment cases require appropriate evidence from the medical provider.
Dependants
A spouse or dependent child applying on the basis of a DTV holder must document the qualifying relationship, for example through marriage, birth or adoption records as applicable.
Where to apply
The application route is through the responsible Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate-General and, where applicable, the Thai e-Visa system. The official e-Visa portal states that an e-Visa application must be made while the applicant is outside Thailand.
Approval and additional evidence
Submission does not guarantee approval. A diplomatic mission may request additional documents or an interview.
After issuance
Visa validity and permitted stay are different concepts. A five-year DTV does not mean five years of uninterrupted permission to remain in Thailand.
