Thai immigration authorities have significantly stepped up control over applications and extensions of Category "O" non-immigrant visas (for retirees and spouses of Thai citizens). For retirement visas (Non-O), applicants over 50 years of age must have 800,000 baht in a bank account or a verified monthly income/pension of at least 65,000 baht. Strict bank deposit "seasoning" rules apply: the 800,000 baht must be in the account 2-3 months prior to application, maintained at that level for 3 months after approval, and never drop below 400,000 baht for the remainder of the year. For marriage visas (Non-O), the financial requirements are 400,000 baht in the account two months prior to application or a monthly income of at least 40,000 baht. Officers have significantly intensified verification procedures, including unannounced home visits, interviews with neighbors, and mandatory photographs at the residence to confirm the authenticity of the marriage. Mandatory health insurance requirements for Non-OA visas are also strictly enforced.
