Retirement is not one single procedure
Thailand has more than one retirement-related immigration route. A visa issued abroad and an extension of stay handled by Immigration inside Thailand are separate procedures.
Age
Official retirement visa material includes routes for applicants aged 50 or older. The exact category must be identified before applying any document or financial checklist.
Financial requirements
Financial evidence depends on the selected retirement route. Figures commonly associated with one route must not automatically be applied to every retirement visa or extension category.
Applying outside Thailand
An overseas visa application is handled by the responsible Thai diplomatic mission and, where available, through Thai e-Visa. The mission can require additional documents or an interview.
Applying inside Thailand
In-country immigration procedures are handled under Immigration rules and local office practice. The applicant's current permission to stay and chosen legal basis determine the relevant process.
Address and reporting
TM30 residence notification and 90-day reporting are separate immigration obligations. They are not themselves retirement visa extensions.
Travel outside Thailand
A person holding permission to stay should check whether a re-entry permit is required before departure to preserve the relevant permission on return.
