Visa Extension FAQ
Questions are taken from QuickWiki visa categories. Factual claims follow the wiki text and official-source baseline; mission and Immigration-office lists can differ.
Is an extension the same as a new visa?
In Thai immigration a visa, permission to stay and an Extension of Stay are different instruments. People say “visa extension”, but the legal act is usually extension of stay, often on form TM.7.
How is a tourist stay extended in Pattaya?
File at the Immigration office with the passport and TM30. The commonly stated government fee for a first personal extension in the year is THB 1,900. An extension is discretionary.
How does a DTV stay extension work?
DTV itself is issued for five years and is not “renewed” as a visa. Each entry is normally up to 180 days. Immigration may grant one extension of up to 180 days (commonly THB 1,900). After 180 + 180 days the holder must leave and may re-enter while the visa remains valid.
Must I show THB 500,000 again for a DTV extension?
There is no single official rule that every office must see THB 500,000 again. In practice many offices ask for an updated statement at or above that level. Treat this as office-specific until that Immigration office confirms.
