Family Visa FAQ

Questions are taken from QuickWiki visa categories. Factual claims follow the wiki text and official-source baseline; mission and Immigration-office lists can differ.

Is there a visa named Family Visa?

Family stay is usually a Non-Immigrant O (“Other”) ground, not a separate named “Family Visa”. The ground must be stated: marriage to a Thai national, parent of a Thai child, or family member of a foreigner with a qualifying stay.

What is a Guardian visa?

There is no separate Guardian category in Thai visa law. In practice it is Non-Immigrant O for a parent or guardian accompanying a child who studies at a recognised Thai school.

Does each family member need their own visa?

Yes. A family member is not added onto the principal’s visa. Each person needs their own passport, their own visa or status, their own permission to stay and, if they travel, their own Re-entry Permit.

Can family members share a retirement visa?

No. A family member is not added onto the principal’s retirement visa. Each dependant needs their own passport, own Non-O or other status, own permission to stay and, if they travel, own Re-entry Permit.

What financial evidence is used for a parent of a student?

Published office example: THB 500,000 in a Thai bank in the parent’s name; at least 30 days on the account for the first year and three months for later years in that published list. Confirm the list at the Immigration office that will decide the file.
